Mazda MX-0 Concept

Posted: 28 Feb 2011 04:19 AM PST

A mixture of futuristic and zany design, Mazda MX-0 concept will be presented at the LA Auto Show. This model tries to be an efficient four-passenger vehicle, with minimum impact on the environment and low fuel consumption. Despite all those objectives that the manufacturers have tried to achieve, the car doesn't sacrifice the style, maintaining the futuristic model of the MX-5, but having some components replaced with more simplified and multiple-functional parts, which generates a car less heavy.

Mazda MX-0 has an electric motor that uses inexpensive parts, relying on sustainability. Definitely, this model was a design challenge for its manufacturers.

Mercedes SLS AMG HAMANN HAWK

This week at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, the German tuner Hamann will bring its newest tuning project based on the Mercedes SLS AMG. Dubbed Hamann Hawk, it will have an Everose Gold exterior paint finish and a new wind tunnel-tested body kit.

Mercedes SLS AMG HAMANN HAWK

It will have a new front bumper fascia with LED lights and enlarged air inlets. It sports a new lighter carbon fiber bonnet that allows the hot air to escape while the fender flairs provide an additional 60 mm on each front side and 70 mm on each rear side. Rounding out the new body kit are the updated side skirts, new rear bumper fascia with an integrated diffuser and a carbon fiber wing.

The standard V8 6.2-liter engine of the Mercedes SLS AMG churns out 563 hp (571 PS / 420 kW), but after Hamann installed high-performance titanium exhaust manifolds and sports catalysts it can output 628 hp (636 PS / 468 kW). To get this additional power under the hood, they've also installed a new sports air filter and they've tweaked the ECU of the supercar. Thanks to these modifications, the SLS AMG Hamann Hawk can do the sprint to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds, onto a top speed of 199 mph (320 km/h).

The car's center of gravity can been lowered by up to 30 mm thanks to the coilover kit with four high-adjustable  dampers and four progressively wound springs. The SLS AMG sits on Hamann's 9Jx21 lightweight forged wheels at the front, wrapped around in 245/30 ZR 21 rubber; and in the back it has 12.5Jx21 wheels with 345/25 ZR 21 tires.

Wiesmann Spyder Concept

It will be a feasibility study and if it will get a positive feedback, it might get the green light for production as early as 2012. This concept is smaller than the MF4 Roadster and promises to be a traditional lightweight roadster while at the same time offering the retro Weismann look. The Wiesmann Spyder Concept has no doors, no windscreen and no roof.

Koenigsegg Agera R Announced

Koenigsegg Agera R

The 81st edition of the Geneva Motor Show will be a great place to see new supercars. Aside from Ferrari, Lamborghini and Pagani, there is going to be another one, the Koenigsegg Agera R. If you remember, a year ago the company revealed an Agera model that had a V8 4.7-liter twin-turbo engine that produced 898 hp (910 PS / 669 kW) and 811 lb.-ft (1100 Nm) of torque. These impressive figures allowed the car to do the 0-60 mph sprint in only 3.1 seconds, hitting a top speed of more than 245 mph (390 km/h).

Koenigsegg Agera R

They didn't stop there as this Agera R is even better. It packs a massive V8 5.0-liter twin-turbo power unit that produces Veyron-like power figures: 1099 hp (1115 PS / 820 kW) and 885 lb.-ft (1200 Nm) of torque. However, this astonishing power is available only if you fill up the tank with E85 biofuel. If you use regular 95-octane fuel you will "only" get 927 hp (940 PS / 691 kW) and 811 lb.-ft (1100 Nm).

Koenigsegg Agera R

Unfortunately we don't know how fast the Agera R will be, but what we do know is that it has Vortex Generating Rim (VGR) wheels, wrapped around Michelin tires that can hold a speed rating of up to 419 km/h (260 mph) and they were specially designed for this hypercar.

More info about the astonishing Koenigsegg Agera R will be revealed very soon so stay tuned.

Lamborghini Aventador

Probably one of the worst kept secrets at this year's edition of the Geneva Motor Show is the highly-anticipated successor of the Lamborghini Murcielago dubbed Aventador (700-4). Last week we've showed you a scanned photo of the car and today we've uploaded photos with the car spied on the Geneva show floor. These pictures were taken by our colleges at Autogespot.com and thanks to them we can see this automotive masterpiece.

Geneva Leaks – Seat IBX Concept

Posted: 28 Feb 2011 12:55 AM PST

Seat IBX Concept

The Seat IBX Concept was leaked online yesterday, ahead of its official debut that will occur this week at the Geneva Motor Show. From the looks of these pictures, it will have the same size as the Audi Q3 and the Porsche Cajun from its own VW Group and similar proportioned with the Opel Antara, Nissan Qashqai and Ford Kuga, models outside the Volkswagen Group.

Most likely, we will not see a production version of this SUV soon as this one has a 3-door configuration. However, the car will probably be the foundation for a sport utility vehicle from the Spanish automaker Seat.

We will let you know once the car is officially unveiled this week at the 81st edition of the Geneva Motor Show.

Press Release

BENTLEY SUPERSPORTS ‘ICE SPEED RECORD' CONVERTIBLE DEBUTS AT GENEVA SHOW

Celebration of Bentley's world ice speed record- breaking Supersports convertible driven by rally champion, Juha Kankkunen

(Geneva, 28 February 2011) Bentley announces today its most potent and radically styled convertible ever - the 202mph (325km/h) Supersports ‘Ice Speed Record' convertible. This new model, limited to just 100 cars worldwide, is a celebration of the Company's world ice speed record set two weeks ago by Finland's four-time world rally champion Juha Kankkunen in a Bentley Continental Supersports convertible.

Driving the all-wheel drive, biofuel-powered 6-litre, 12-cylinder Continental Supersports convertible on the perilous frozen Baltic Sea, off the coast of Finland, Kankkunen achieved a speed of 205.48 mph (330.695 km/h) eclipsing his own ice speed record of 199.83 mph (321.6 km/h) set in 2007 in the Continental GT.

Both the new Supersports ‘Ice Speed Record' convertible and Juha's record-breaking Supersports will be on display on the Bentley stand at the Geneva Show from 1st March.

Wolfgang Duerheimer, Bentley's new Chairman and Chief Executive, said:

"Juha Kankkunen's drive was a remarkable achievement and worthy of a very special car. The Continental Supersports ‘Ice Speed Record' is a true driver's car that captures that unique Bentley spirit. It offers extreme performance, agility and an extrovert personality, while retaining the refinement, handcrafted luxury and comfort our customers expect."

Bentley's most powerful 6 litre W12 engine with FlexFuel technology

The 6-litre, twin turbo-charged W12 engine, produces 640 PS (631 bhp / 471 kW) - the most powerful Bentley ever - and 800Nm (590lb ft) of torque. Paired with a Quickshift six-speed automatic transmission, it launches the convertible ‘Ice Speed Record' model from 0-60mph in 3.8 seconds (0-100km/h in 4.0s) and reaches 100mph from a standing start in only 9.5 seconds (0-160 km/h in 9.4s).

The additional engine power of the new convertible is the result of fine tuning of the engine to optimise the benefits of the new free-breathing air intake ducts, intercooler system and the exhaust system.

And true to the Bentley tradition of delivering instantly available and exhilarating performance in real world driving conditions, the ‘Ice Speed Record' convertible will sprint from 50-75mph (80-120 km/h) in just 2.5 seconds.

In common with its Continental stable mates, the new Supersports model runs on both petrol (gasoline) or E85 bio-ethanol or any combination of the two. Pioneered in the Supersports coupe, this FlexFuel technology offers a reduction of up to 70 per cent in CO2 emissions on a well-to-wheel basis, a measure of a fuel's net contribution to the atmosphere, not just tailpipe emissions. The on-board fuel supply system monitors the content of the fuel tank and ensures that power and torque remain constant regardless of the ratio of petrol to biofuel.

The all-wheel drive system provides outstanding traction in all weather conditions. The drive is transferred between the front and rear axles automatically via a Torsen centre differential. The standard 40 front/60 rear torque split provides optimum traction and modulation of line and attitude by 'throttle steering' for more enthusiastic drivers.

The new exhaust system with reduced back pressure benefits gas flow while delivering a sporty baritone note under hard acceleration. On light throttle cruising, the new Supersports model remains impressively refined.

Large diameter (420 mm front, 356 mm rear), carbon ceramic brake discs, with eight-piston calipers at the front provide fade-resistant stopping power. This lightweight system also reduces unsprung and rotating mass, benefiting steering response and handling. As with all Supersports models the ‘Ice Speed Record' is fitted as standard with Pirelli 275/35ZR20 ultra high performance tyres.

Dramatically extrovert styling

Just 100 examples of this dramatically styled new model will be built at Bentley's Crewe factory. The Supersports ‘Ice Speed Record' is distinguished by its vibrant and muscular styling cues that reinforce the uncompromising performance credentials of this extreme Bentley convertible.

Bentley's designers have selected three ‘stand-out' exterior paint colours for the new convertible: Beluga, Quartzite and, fittingly, Arctica White. These colours are complemented by a Dark Grey Metallic soft top with Bentley's refined three-ply composite construction.

The unique appearance of the soft top is created in the outer layer by a 'grey' acrylic fibre with a semi-transparent 'metallic look' in a twill weave construction. The car's potent performance is further accentuated by 20" inch, 10-spoke Supersports wheels with a dark tint finish.

Contemporary luxury craftsmanship and advanced technology

The dramatic character of the four-seat Supersports ‘Ice Speed Record' continues in the cockpit in which traditional Bentley craftsmanship and fine detailing are given an even more extrovert interpretation.

Traditional leather hides sit alongside a range of contemporary materials for a distinctly sporting style. This includes diamond-quilted Alcantara to doors, quarter panels and seat facings, and ‘soft-grip' leather on the steering wheel and gear lever.

Unique to the ‘Ice Speed Record' model, the high-gloss carbon fibre on the dashboard, centre console and roof panel, features a unique red weave. The theme continues with Pillar Box red piping to seats and doors, and Pillar Box Red contrast stitching to seats, door casings, steering wheel and gearshift paddles.

The front seats and floor mats also feature embroidered ‘Supersports' legends while the signature Breitling dashboard clock also has a red accent.

The Supersports ‘Ice Speed Record', despite its ice racing pedigree, is clearly no ‘stripped out' racer. Its highly specified interior has the highly-advanced touchscreen infotainment system from the new Continental GT that provides rich map imagery and a 30GB on-board hard drive.

An 8-inch screen displays the car's audio system, telephone, ride and comfort settings as well as the very latest navigation system, which uses both an in-car hard-disc drive and a DVD player to access route data. It also utilises dynamic navigation to avoid heavy traffic spots, locates destinations using geo-tagged photos from an SD memory card and is Google Maps-compatible for most markets.

The infotainment system, with 7-digit postcode entry, combines touchscreen controls and classic Bentley knurled rotary switches to offer instant usability. It is complemented by a new driver information panel (DIP) located in the main instrument cluster. The new wide-screen DIP employs TFT technology and enhanced graphics provide the driver with clear and easily accessible information about a wide range of car systems.

2011 Nissan Electric Sports Cars ESFLOW Concept

2011 Nissan Electric Sports Cars ESFLOW Concept
The ESFLOW concept cars will be unveiled at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show (3-13 March) where it will share the Nissan stand with a number of other innovative and exciting newcomers - but with one major difference: these are production ready.
The 2011 Nissan Electric Sports Cars ESFLOW Concept isn’t scheduled to be unveiled until the 2011 Geneva Motor Show in just a couple of weeks. Nissan plans to reveal its new electric concept, called Esflow, at the Chicago Auto Show this year. The car will make its world debut at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show from March.
2011 Nissan Electric Sports Cars ESFLOW Concept
Nissan has a reputation for creating some of the most exhilarating sports cars on the market. Nissan has also developed the world's first practical Zero Emission family car, the Nissan LEAF. Now Nissan has put that expertise together. It has captured the excitement of a sports car and the environmental benefits of an electric vehicle and blended them into one dramatic two-seater concept: ESFLOW.
It may be a concept, but the Nissan ESFLOW electric sports cars proves it's possible to remain environmentally sympathetic without having to give up the joy of driving. It looks like a sports car, handles like a sports car and performs like one too. But Nissan ESFLOW Concept cars is different to every other sports car yet built: it's electric. Using technology pioneered in the award-winning Nissan LEAF, the EV concept shows that driving can still be as much fun tomorrow as it is today.
2011 Nissan Electric Sports Cars ESFLOW Concept
Ecological minimalism need not come at the expense of luxury. The cabin of the 2011 Nissan Electric Sports Cars ESFLOW Concept is clean and open and weight saving has been a priority throughout its design, but it is still a comfortable and pleasant place to sit. By far the heaviest components in modern cars' interiors are the steel framed, thickly upholstered and increasingly motorized seats. In 2011 Nissan Electric Sports Cars ESFLOW Concept the seats are sculpted into the rear bulkhead of the car, negating the need for a heavy frame. This of course means that they are immobile, but this is of no consequence as the fly-by-wire steering and pedals adjust electrically to the best spot to suit each individual driver's size and preferred driving position.
Nissan ESFLOW Concept is rear-wheel drive and it runs on two motors. The car's graceful proportions allow the twin electric motors to be placed above the axis of the rear wheels, in a mid-ship position,. These motors independently control the left and right wheels, and so the torque is optimized to ensure outstanding vehicle stability and control as well as efficient power regeneration. The motors produce enough torque in an instant for it to reach a 100kph in under 5 seconds.
2011 Nissan Electric Sports Cars ESFLOW Concept
Power for the motors comes from the same laminated lithium-ion battery packs used in the Nissan LEAF, but in ESFLOW the packs are located along the axis of the front and rear wheels. This centralizes the mass of the car, and thus its rotation point, close to the driver's hips. These cleverly positioned batteries enable the car to travel over 240km on one charge.
2011 Nissan Electric Sports Cars ESFLOW Concept
The colors of this Esflow are inspired from glaciers, with highly reflective blue-tinted solidified liquid shapes. Even if this concept will not hit the production line too soon, it could be a great source of inspiration for Nissan’s future sports cars.
